I am teaching a sculpture + journal creation class at Valley Ridge Studio in September. Won't you come join me?
Have you been to Valley Ridge Art Studio? Come and look. The place is beautiful... rolling hills of farmland and woods, fields that will be mown for hay, greens and golds that will have begin to move toward russets by the time my workshop comes to pass. The classroom is incredibly spacious- nice tables for each student and plenty of room to work. Refreshment is available - I became addicted to Raven Red Soda during my first visit. YUM. On site accomodations are also available, as well as at some near by locales (info on their website is very thorough.) Kathy and Bill offer a fabulous experience. Opt for the lunch, and stay on site, if there is room. Trust me.
My class is called Telling Stories.
Whimsical puppets and their stories are brought to life by a little sculpture, a little painting, a little writing and some magic. Each puppet will carry your tale in words and image, canvas, paper and paint, on its surface. Made using the simplest of materials, newspaper, masking tape, wire and clay, these puppets can give life to the inhabitants of our imagination. Whether their stories are wicked, sly, cute, or profound, we’ll do some work to uncover the story they have to tell. You’ll also make a small accompanying journal to serve as a storybook.
Spend two days doing creative exercises, learning about construction of the armature of the head, creating a small journal, and spilling a story out across the three dimensional surface of the puppet and our book. You’ll receive as much teacher attention as you desire and time permits. This medium is accessible to everyone!
I have a collection of puppets for viewing here.
What a fascinating and ingenious class. Too bad I am based in the UK and can't take part!
