Look round and round upon this bare, bleak plain, and see even here, upon a winter's day, how beautiful the shadows are! Alas! it is the nature of their kind to be so. The loveliest things in life, Tom, are but shadows and they come and go, and change and fade away, as rapidly as these! ~~Charles Dickens
Shadow is a colour as light is, but less brilliant; light and shadow are only the relation of two tones. Paul Cezanne
You will find the exploration of the juxtaposition of light and shadow addictive. If you are familiar with my Point & Shoot Journaling classes, you know how much I love the idea of using our photos as a source of original imagery on our journal pages. We take these wonderful photos, look at them, and perhaps post one or two to our blog and the rest languish on our hard drives. Let's do something more! We'll take our photos, work with them by hand, and create wonderful, original, rich journal pages. You don't need an expensive camera or Photoshop. You need a point & shoot camera, your computer, a printer, photo papers, and your art supplies... and a journal, of course. Shadows and light are the stuff of which photographs are made. We'll create art journal pages using photographs we'll make or bring out of our files. We'll work with, altering/manipulating/working onto the photographs by hand, adding richness and our unique touch. The course, designed to span six to eight weeks, includes: All the assignments and materials are designed specifically for this content. I will also be demoing an acrylic paint background technique that I use often. Sign up is ongoing; you may begin at anytime. Class cost is $30. Class begins when you receive the link, username and password. There is a private, password protected blog for our class. Refunds are only availble until you receive the username and password for the class blog. Photography is a record of light, the word literally meaning drawing with light, and often where one has light, one finds shadows. Shadows, unlike their reputation, are not darkness, nor are they the opposite of light. Shadows are the companion of light, and together Light and Shadow play to make images and pattern, texture and line. We can create amazing journal pages by playing with shadow and light.
